Brie Kohrt, PhD
Founder, Director, Instructor, and Primary Supervisor
PASEO LLC is run by Brieanne (Brie) Kohrt, PhD., a licensed clinical psychologist from the United States. Brie earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2013 from The Catholic University of America. She completed her internship at The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, and postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University. She is presently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the International Disaster Psychology program at the University of Denver. She is passionate about increasing the quality of training for mental health professionals who will provide services in Spanish. She has worked with Latino communities across the United States, and has worked internationally in Guatemala and Peru.
Dr. Kohrt's research and clinical interests include global mental health, efficacious methods for delivering mental health services in low-resource settings, influence of migration and urbanization in Latin America on the family system and mental health, cultural adaptations of evidence-based treatments for Latino populations, best practices for culturally and linguistically appropriate supervision and training of Spanish-speaking students, and suicidality and non-suicidal self-injury in Latina adolescents.
David H. Mercedes
David Mercedes teaches the Advanced Grammar series for PASEO. In addition, he is the director and founder of the NGO Espaanglisch. The goal of Espaanglisch is to provide students in the public elementary schools with high quality English classes, provide engaging and effective Spanish instruction for international volunteers, and promote cultural exchange through the process of learning between international volunteers and local children. David has been teaching Spanish and English since 2005. He speaks fluent English and Spanish, as well as some German, Italian, French, and Norwegian.
Lourdes Cabel Salinas
Lourdes (Lou) is a licensed clinical psychologist from Trujillo, Peru who teaches the Psychology in Peru series for PASEO. In addition to providing clinical services in the region, Lourdes is also the director of an NGO called Sayariy-Resurgiendo. This organization works with the residents of disadvantaged communities in northern Peru to help create a suitable place where children can grow up without violence, with respect for themselves and the environment, with equal opportunities for success, and with the memory of their history and culture as a driving force for pride and change.
As the program coordinator, Liam assists PASEO with the design of the website and promotional materials, fosters connections with community partners, co-facilitates the program evaluation process, and assists with application review and coordination of logistics for accepted students. Liam is presently completing his Masters in Poverty and Development at the Institute of Development Studies at Sussex University. Prior to beginning his studies, he spent nearly two years in Peru working for an NGO that promotes community development and primary education. He also has experience working on development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. His primary interests focus on the relationship and intersections between inequality, power and progress.
